The Data Controller and the purposes of processing

The European Space Agency (ESA) CryoSat mobile application enables you to gather information on the ESA CryoSat-2 Earth observation mission, to geographically and temporally search a subset of the mission’s data and to download the data on to your personal Dropbox. The CryoSat app seeks to enhance knowledge of ESA Earth observation missions and to raise awareness and educate people on the importance of observing the Earth from Space for research and operational applications (e.g. climate change monitoring). Moreover, the app provides an additional means for ESA Earth Observation data users to get access to and download data of their interest, thereby enlarging the ESA EO data dissemination services portfolio.

The aim of the data provided is to support the performance of an activity carried out by ESA within its purpose and this includes processing necessary for increasing awareness of ESA activities, mission and achievements, and in compliance with the ESA obligation to share information and its data to users in the ESA Member States and worldwide.

No personal data is collected by the ESA CryoSat app. If you choose to exploit the app functionality that enables the selection of CryoSat data and the download in your Dropbox account from the ESA EO data dissemination systems, you will be required to provide the username and password of your ESA EO Single Sign On (SSO) account, and of your Dropbox account. These username and passwords are stored on servers located in a data centre at Exprivia S.p.A in Rome on behalf of ESA as Data Controller.

Please refer to the ESA EO SSO Privacy Notice for further information concerning the collection and processing of your personal data by means of the ESA EO SSO system:

Your first point of contact concerning Personal Data matters is ESA’s Data Protection Officer(“DPO”), who may be contacted

Concerning the collection and processing of your private data in relation to the Dropbox please refer to the privacy notice released by the company providing the service.
